Anti-racism statistics, insights and reports
Under the Anti-Racism Data Act we’re required to release statistics or other information related to systemic racism and racial equity by June 1st each year.

Future releases will focus on providing more statistics and insights from data. With this information, communities can learn more about the needs of their members. This will support their ongoing efforts to advocate for themselves and advance their goals.
Year one progress report
This report outlines what we’ve done since the Anti-Racism Data Act was introduced in June 2022.
This includes information about:
- Building trust and transparency with Indigenous Peoples and the Anti-Racism Data Committee
- Consultation and cooperation with Indigenous Peoples
- The creation of the Anti-Racism Data Committee and how it works
- How community feedback and engagement has shaped the BC Demographic Survey
- An analysis of the recommendations that helped to inform the development of research priorities
Guide on using categorical race and ethnicity variables
This technical guide provides nine recommendations on how to use race and ethnicity variables in research projects. It supports data users, including:
- Analysts
- Researchers
- Data architects
- Data scientists
The guide also includes case studies and examples, as well as a self-assessment checklist.
We worked with subject matter experts to develop the guide.
