How the anti-racism research priorities were developed
On June 1, 2023, we released 10 sector-based research priorities, and two other priorities. These priorities will help to identify and address systemic racism in our programs and services.
The research priorities were developed in collaboration with the Anti-Racism Data Committee and Indigenous Peoples. This includes B.C. First Nations and Métis Nation BC.
Research
We reviewed more than 60 reports to identify data-related recommendations, gaps or opportunities. This included reports from:
- The B.C. Human Rights Commissioner
- The B.C. Representative for Children and Youth
- Community engagement on the Anti-Racism Data Act
- Other organizations working to improve equity and diversity
Eighty potential priority topics were identified.
Collaboration
We shared the 80 priority topics with the Anti-Racism Data Committee, Métis Nation British Columbia and B.C. First Nations. This information helped to guide discussions around what research priorities were most important.
The topics that were chosen represent what matters most to those affected by systemic racism.
Talking to communities
Each partner provided several recommendations.
These were used to create a final list of 10 sector-based research priorities, and two other priorities.
